Big River Ranch Rides

Located in Lexington, Missouri, Big River Ranch offers more than 25 miles of horse riding trails tailored to any level of riding ability.  For the true beginner looking for a relaxing ride, Big River Ranch has miles of scenic maintained trails.  Or if an adrenalin-junky is looking for an exciting ride over sheer bluffs, fallen logs, and wooded hills, well, Big River has that and more!

Lake trails:  The lake trails are almost like old-time wagon roads leading down to the bottoms.   Paths lead around a 10-acre lake, through marshland and across a dam.  There is even a pond for horses to take a dip, if you don't mind getting wet.

Bluff trails:  The bluff trails are like riding along the side of a mountain, with steep drop-offs, canyons, and ravines.  At times the terrain is almost straight up and down.  There are waterfalls and abundant wildlife to see, as well as a railroad track that runs along the bottom of the bluffs.  These trails can be a big challenge for horses that don't have as much experience as ours.  As a train rolls by at 60 mph, our trail horses stand quietly and watch without being spooked at all.  On these trails you'll think to yourself, "these are truly great horses!", but you will come to expect that from our horses time after time.

River trails:  One of the rare opportunities to ride along the mighty Missouri River, the river trails wind along the high river bank and down along the sandbars of the river itself.  Hand-cut trails through the trees take horses over logs and down steep wash-outs leading down to the water, evidence of beavers everywhere!  Watching boats glide down the river, it's hard not to imagine Lewis and Clark on their great expedition west.

For those who would like to ride regularly, as your ability grows and skill level improves, you can start riding the more advanced trails and see where the true adventure is!

Other amenities:  Big River Ranch offers an event barn, training arena, horse boarding and much more.  Campsites with full electric and water hookup and a dump station are available for those wanting to enjoy more than just a day-trip.  Visit them at www.bigriverranchtrailriding.com for more information.
