Show-Me Trail Ride Outfitter is giving away 2 free 2-hour rides at Big River Ranch to a lucky winner of our Facebook drawing.  Entering is easy; simply visit our Facebook page and click “like”!  The drawing will begin once we have achieved 50 fans.

Always train your horse in a safe place!  Avoid places that are too small for the horse, or are so packed with obstacles that he will no be able to move around safely.

Always try to use the same place for training, and not for other common activities, such as eating. Horses are very place-sensitive animals; when the horse enters this zone he will know it is time to work.

Any time you ask your horse to do something, he must do it no exceptions, so
1) be careful what you ask!
2) make sure that you can enforce what you ask!

The first thing we will do is lead the horse. Lead him over and through anything you can find just get him used to the fact that he can do it. That way, later on when you are on his back he has the confidence to do it.

Some obstacles we use are: fallen logs, streams, old tires, up and down steep banks, past rustling bags and barrels…truly anything and everything we can find.  Horses will naturally shy away from anything new, so starting this training on a lead rope is a great way to safely build the horse’s trust in his handler, and confidence in himself!

We know you’re still young at heart!  Show-Me Trail Ride Outfitter will be honoring Senior Citizens.  Seniors 65 and older ride FREE with a paid rider anytime in July.  Simply bring a copy of your receipt showing a paid ride, and your senior friend rides for free.)
